THE northern beaches is known for its surfing beaches and laid-back outdoor living. What is less well known is that inland from the beaches there are semi-rural suburbs offering acreages some with sophisticated equine facilities.
What’s more suburbs such as Terrey Hills and Oxford Falls are close to Ingleside which is due to be released as an environmentally sustainable new suburb and Frenchs Forest where millions of dollars are being spent on infrastructure, a new hospital and new roads.
Suburbs such as Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest have a reputation for large equestrian estates. However, it is rare to see property of this kind offered for below $4 million.
The sprawling estates with arenas, pools and stables often sell for upwards of $6 million.
One of the most recent acreage sales settled last month in Duffys Forest with a 2.31ha estate in Booralie Rd selling for $8,135,000.

Shayne Hutton, of Sydney Country Living, said he was constantly being asked for a lifestyle acreage for under $4 million and had nothing to offer.
Now he has two acreages for sale with price guides up to $3.8 million.
One of them, in Oxford Falls, is the only property for sale in the suburb. A quick search of the records shows that, apart from Northern Beaches Council selling some land alongside Wakehurst Parkway, the last sale in Oxford Falls was in 2016, when a retirement village bought land in Willandra Rd.
Terrey Hills hasn’t seen many acreage sales either. There have been two acreage sales in the suburb this year — one in Tooronga Rd last month for $4.5 million and another in McCarrs Creek Rd in March, for $7 million.
Buyers looking for acreage have 1109 Oxford Falls Rd, Oxford Falls, and 5 Myoora Rd, Terrey Hills, to choose from at the moment.
The Oxford Falls Rd estate consists of 4976sqm of land on the Frenchs Forest border. There is a modern, tri-level house with four bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a separate studio or home office.
Rolling lawns lead to a paddock for horses and there is a pretty creek.
Mr Hutton said this property was a retreat only a minute’s drive from the new Northern Beaches Hospital.
The Terrey Hills property has 3100 sqm of elevated land with a two-level, five-bedroom house.
A one-bedroom teenager retreat on the ground floor has its own entrance. This possible home business or horse estate is for sale via expressions of interest, closing on June 20. It has a guide of $3.2 million to $3.5 million.
